Afternoon Tea with LLamas

Join us for one of two guided walks with llamas (11:00 AM and again at 2:00 PM). The walks will be on the Forest Discovery Trail. This is an easy to moderate trail approximately 2 miles in length located at the Cradle of Forestry.

The programs will be led by George Appenzeller and Sarah Meadows, founders of Challenge Adventures, a nonprofit organization experienced in leading hiking and camping adventure programs for youth groups. Since 1989 they have involved over 4,000 young people in educational experiences in the outdoors with llamas. Before each walk they will explain the adaptations llamas have that make them not only good pack animals, but also good trail companions. Visitors will hear about the llamas' cooperative structure that presents humans with an example of teamwork and caring.  As the group walks the Discovery Trail, children can take turns leading the llamas. The group will then stop and picnic along the trail before heading back. This easy walk through scenic woods is about 2 miles round trip.

Participants are encouraged to bring a snack or lunch which the llamas will carry. Cold tea and cups for this picnic in the woods will be provided by the Cradle of Forestry. During the walk children will have the chance to lead the llamas.

Come joing us for this unique event and learn about these light-on-the-land, and interesting pack animals.

Admission for this event is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for youth, and America The Beautiful and Golden Age pass holders.
